A PRACTICAL CONVERSION GUIDE

Keep the source.
Take the Markdown.

A PDF conversion is useful when you can follow it back to the original, correct mistakes and move the result into your own tools.

Compare an actual export

This original three-page field-notes fixture contains a selectable text layer and real PDF bookmarks. The export below was generated with the app's text-only extractor and archive builder. It is a small functional example, not an OCR or scientific-accuracy benchmark.

Choose the cheapest method that fits the PDF

If text can be selected and copied correctly, text-layer extraction may suffice. It excludes image extraction and layout reconstruction. If the PDF is scanned, or its embedded text is damaged, use automatic extraction or force OCR. A selectable text layer can still contain incorrect characters.

Convert the pages you actually need

Select PDF positions such as 2-3 before processing. Those positions may differ from printed page labels. The app inspects page count and text-layer samples before displaying a price; inspection does not run MinerU. A paid job requires separately funded credits and explicit quote confirmation.

Review difficult content against the original

Check numbers, units, negations, Greek symbols, IPA, equations, tables and captions. Replacement-glyph or missing-image reports identify some symptoms; an unflagged page can still be wrong. Open the original PDF page beside the Markdown editor and save corrections. Reprocessing keeps saved edits, so load extracted text explicitly if you intend to replace a correction.

Bring it into Obsidian, an editor or your LLM workflow

Extract the ZIP into a folder. Keep relative image directories with the Markdown. Import or open that folder in your preferred editor; no special plugin is required. Check source-page links in your tool, and choose to include the original PDF in the export when local verification matters. PDF-bookmark exports follow actual source bookmarks rather than inventing chapters.

Prices and practical limits

No recurring access fee is planned. MinerU processing is quoted at $0.50 per job plus $0.005 per selected page; text-only is $0.25 plus $0.001 per page. One-time $5/$10 processing packs are prepared, but paid checkout is not activated. Taxes may be added at checkout. A small one-page sample is available within a global trial allowance.

Each source may contain up to 1,000 PDF pages and be up to 64 MiB. Inspected sources, outputs and saved edits expire after 48 hours; download your work promptly. Conversion can fail or need manual correction. Use documents you are authorized to upload.

When this tool is a sensible fit

Try it if you need a portable, reviewable book or paper conversion and prefer to use your own tools afterwards. A normal PDF reader may be enough if you only need to read. Existing converters also offer Markdown; choose using your actual documents, correction time and total price rather than feature claims.
